Now that we're solidly into May, our sweet spot for warm-weather gatherings—from impromptu barbecues to sophisticated dinner parties—has begun. Why not make the most of it with an easy and inspired transformation of your outdoor entertaining space? We started with IKEA's ÄPPLARÖ Bar Table and sectional seating to set the scene, and added a side table and soft goods in jubilant, poppy colors. Draped fabric and solar-powered pendant lamps in soft hues create interest overhead. A few hanging planters and a vase of wildflowers, a cheese plate and a summery cocktail (or two), and the good times are ready to roll. This is one outdoor living room that's guaranteed to stay occupied all summer long.

MAKE IT WORK

1. Give Them Options Bar tables and chairs can be used when enjoying longer meals, while sectional seating with plush cushions and low occasional tables are optimized for appetizers, card games, and cocktails.

2. Get Green Arrange potted plants and trees at different elevations around the space to create a lush and natural layer to brick or wood walls.

3. Bring It Together Unify two seating areas with a common color scheme. We selected aqua and white solar-powered lanterns to hang above the lounge area to match the curtain draped near the dining table.

4. Finish Things Off Patterned cushions, textured throws, and lanterns with tea lights amp up the energy and ambiance.  An LED stool acts as a vibrant hit of color, as well as extra seating when needed.
