Like summer birthday season, wedding season is in full swing and you know what that means: plenty of opportunities for gift-giving. While registries were made to be followed—after all, people list exactly what they want for a reason—I always like to pair my presents with a little unexpected something. Enter Fringe & Fettle Ceramics, a small pottery company in Minneapolis.

"I cook a lot," Buyert says, "so I make things that I'd want in my own kitchen. I make items that feel good to hold and have an interactive quality to them." The subtle variations in the handmade pieces only add to their beauty.

But I could easily see these used in other ways, too—as a bedside ring holder or catch-all for small rolled washcloths in a bathroom.
