Last week I had the opportunity to tag along with designer Michael Devine as he popped in to visit with some friends in Kinderhook, NY. And what friends! I was lucky enough to catch his charming upstate New York hometown on a (relatively) clear day—morning showers gave way to, quite literally, afternoon flowers. Our first stop was the garden of the writer Amanda Foreman, where trellises were overgrown with budding vines and a buffet of flora overwhelmed the senses.
We then made our way to the home of Bob Woods, better known as Bo Buchanan to fans of the long-running soap opera One Life to Live. The setting was a bit more rustic, with thoughtfully manicured grounds that would play host to an annual games tournament that weekend. What better setting for it than an expanse of lawn flanked by rows of corn?
