ICYMI, Adrianna Adarme, founder of the crazy-popular blog, A Cozy Kitchen, filled a book with her "homemade adventures," and we think you should know about it. The Year of Cozy features delectable recipes and adorable crafts to last you, you guessed it, 365 days. We were pretty taken by the cuteness level of her dip-dyed dog leash (pin it here), so we're featuring another DIY that we bipeds can enjoy too.
What do design-savvy humans love more than beautiful throw pillows? Not much. And what's better than a beautiful throw pillow? A handmade, one-of-a-kind design, of course. "Since I'm a bit averse to sewing, I like to simply buy plain white pillow covers and paint them in cute colors and patterns," says Adarme. "I'm no Picasso, so I keep it simple with shapes like polka dots, raindrops, plus marks, and waves." Check out the easy steps below to see how you can make one yourself. If you can dot an "i" and wield an iron, you can nail this.
SUPPLIES
Paintbrush
Fabric paint
20" x 20" plain white pillow cover
Clear acrylic coating spray
22" x 22" pillow insert (see note at the bottom)
step 1
Decide on the pattern you'd like to make: polka dots, raindrop shapes, plus marks, waves, chevrons—get creative! If your pillow cover is wrinkled, feel free to give it a good ironing. And then use your paintbrush and fabric paint to paint the pillow cover.
step 2
Allow it to dry completely, about 2 to 3 hours, and then spray with the top coat. Dry for an additional hour.
step 3
At this time, your pillow cover will be dry enough for people to lean against it. Fill the cover with the pillow insert and decorate your favorite chair with it.
Note: I recommend buying a pillow insert that's a few inches bigger than the pillow cover. This will make the pillow appear full and fluffy.
