Lonny readers, you owe me one. It would appear that February is National Cherry Month, and you have just two days left to celebrate it. While I'm pretty sure the campaign was concocted to inspire people to eat more healthily by snacking on them instead of, say, Doritos, I think many—myself included—prefer to make the most of this made-up holiday taking down the good stuff: cherry pie, cherry scones, cherry cobbler.
Of course, one dessert seems to perfectly capture the fruit's singular virtues and catapult it from ho-hum mix-in to scene-stealing star: the ice cream sundae. So we gathered the Lonny staff for an impromptu ice cream social with Brooklyn-based Steve's Ice Cream as the foundation. Though the small-batch company specializes in artisanal flavors such as Mexican chili chocolate and salty-caramel, we opted for a boozy bourbon-vanilla, then built our way up, finishing with our humble honoree on top for good measure. And if you think this is too much praise for one small stone fruit, there's always March, a.k.a. Women's History Month.
