Thanks to a laissez faire attitude when it comes to alcoholic beverages, the Lonny
office is slowly but surely beginning to resemble Sterling Cooper, the fictional advertising agency Mad Men made famous. Not that I'm complaining. I was thrilled when Lillet
stopped by our Union Square digs on National Aperitif Day for pre-dinner drinks. And I was even happier when Milagro
Tequila recently visited us for a happy hour
tutorial on how to celebrate National Tequila
Day, which—wouldn't you know it—is today!
While big-name hotels like Rosewood Mayakoba
are marking the holiday with a private tour of the Tequila Herradura Sensory Museum and in-room tastings and welcome bottles, Milagro Tequila Ambassador Jaime Salas
) led a first-rate tasting of the brand's Silver, Reposado, and Añejo varietals right here at Lonny headquarters. Though most of the staff was familiar with the unaged Silver (some of us aren't that far removed from our college years, after all), we were surprised to learn that the amber-colored Reposados and Añejos were perfect for sipping—no salt or lime required.
Naturally, we gravitated toward the sophisticated select barrel reserves, not only for their gorgeous handblown bottles—just think of all the stylish bar cart
possibilities!—but for their oaky vanilla notes and dry finish. After sipping the different samples neat, Salas fixed us a refreshing Agave Spritzer (see the recipe below). We didn't know about National Tequila Day before, but we'll be marking it on our calendars every July 24th from now until forever. Salud!Agave SpritzerServes 1
