But when it comes to buying and owning a home, the Big Apple slides way down the list, below Philadelphia, Orlando, and even Raleigh, North Carolina. That's because a sky-high housing market filled with less-than-desirable small spaces makes renting not only practical, but, rather, a downright necessity regardless of your career goals and responsible saving habits.
It's no wonder, then, that Denver, Colorado, made it into the number 1 spot this year, beating out flashier places like San Francisco, Portland, and Washington, D.C. According to a recent survey conducted by the home improvement site Porch and the real estate firm Redfin, the Mile-High city is safe and easily commutable, with a moderate climate, a robust outdoor lifestyle, and plenty of educational and economic opportunities. In fact, only one other city (Grand Rapids, Michigan) ranks higher in resident satisfaction.
