Let's face it: Halloween costumes are serious business. And while I would love to be the kind of parent to unfurl some next-level DIY skills and produce a masterwork of one-off craftsmanship, the fact of the matter is, that's just not going to happen. This year, however, I'm going to get my act together—no more panicky last-minute trips to those pop-up megastores. Who does Halloween costumes right? Why, none other than the Land of Nod.
Trust the creative geniuses at that company to come up with some off-the-beaten-path disguises. When was the last time you saw a bandit this adorable? And don't even get me started on the weightlifting champ's buckle belt and printed mustache. My all-time favorite, however—and keep in mind, I was a major Encyclopedia Brown fan growing up, and I still collect old editions of the Sherlock Holmes series—is that deerstalker-cap-and-cape combo sported by the young lass at the very top of this article.
What I love most about this collection is the sweet old-timey vibe of it all, a refreshing change from the ubiquitous firefighters and Disney princesses capering down the sidewalk come trick-or-treat time. They're imagination-inducing, and I would give almost anything to be able to go back in time and experience that limitless sense of dress-up wonder again. Why does childhood have to fly by so fast? At least there's the Land of Nod to make sure we all enjoy it along the way.
