Better known for her acting skillset than for her love of interiors, we must admit, we were pretty excited to learn that Minnie Driver (of Good Will Hunting and Four Weddings and a Funeral fame) had teamed up with the designers at one of our go-to design destinations, One Kings Lane, to give her home a fresh feel.
When we wrapped our heads around the fact that Driver's place is, in fact, a double-wide trailer? Jaws hit the floor.
The home and lifestyle brand, which also offers a full-spectrum interior design service, was tasked with recreating three out-of-date spaces in Driver's double-wide trailer, located in Malibu. The results are every bit as refreshing as you might imagine.
Adhering to a contemporary, modern-nautical look and feel, the designers gave the living room, dining room, and master bedroom the full One Kings Lane treatment, opting for soft, pillowy neutrals, cozy sofas, and organic, beach-inspired accents throughout.
“It was all slightly mis-proportioned,” Driver says, when describing the space, pre-facelift. “It was lovely and charming, but I wanted something that really worked as a space to entertain in. I didn’t want a huge amount of pattern and I wanted it to be this kind of streamlined, calm space, so that was my jumping-off point."
The actor came across One Kings Lane design services the way most of us tend to — thanks to the internet. "I went through the website and it's super extensive," Driver says. "I created wish lists, which is just such a great way of figuring out what you like. And then the design team synthesized that and they added things that I hadn’t thought of."
"I’m very, very hands on," Driver adds. "I was not handing over to a designer to say, 'Ok, do what you want because I don’t have any ideas.' I knew very much what I wanted. What was so brilliant about the design team, was that they translated all of my ideas."
What's more, each of the pieces on show throughout Driver's newly revived space are now available to purchase via One Kings Lane. "I knew it was going to be lovely, because we picked everything out, but seeing it go from rendered drawings to actually there in the space, it’s made me so happy. I absolutely love it," says Driver.
