Of the Moment: Botanical Noir

Botanical noir is proof that floral is not necessarily a signifier of the feminine. It doesn’t need to be dainty, pastel, or staid. Inspired by everything from the exceptionally intricate paper cuttings created by Mary Delany in the 18th century (download and print them for free, courtesy of the British Museum) to the large-scale florals gracing Givenchy’s resort 2012 collection, we just can’t get enough. Edgy and colorful, black-backed botanicals have been blossoming on runways around the world.
