It’s long been on our short list of coolest New York City hotels, but our June cover shoot
with actress Jaime King has renewed our love affair with the Gramercy Park Hotel
First, there’s the location, off a leafy stretch of Gramercy Park. Then, the dreamy Renaissance-revival interiors—saturated colors, ultra-luxe textiles, and the glamor of a bygone era, all courtesy of artist Julian Schnabel—which perfectly complemented our cover girl
Each of the 185 guest rooms acts as a bold canvas for an eclectic mix of art (Warhol, Basquiat) and furniture, including leather-bound desks, custom-molded Corian sinks and mahogany wall panels. I mean, just look at this gorgeous embroidered chair
. In addition to that modern art, the walls are enlivened with a collection of photography curated by Magnum Photos. (Source: Lonny)
But this being the weddings issue, what really caught our eye was the 18th-floor Gramercy Terrace, a coveted venue among discerning brides with a retractable roof meant to keep rain at bay on your big day. As in the guest rooms, art figures heavily in the design of the four indoor salons and adjoining terraces (you can rent them out individually or combine them to create the ultimate wedding venue). In the Drawing Room, that means paintings by Damien Hirst and a 4,000-bulb-strong light installation hanging from the ceiling. We can’t think of a better place to sip cocktails and nibble on hors d’oeuvres made by Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group. (Photo courtesy of Gramercy Park Hotel)
Who could pass up those skyline views?
