You think you know what to expect with a coffee mug. It has a nice weight to it, insulates your drink well, and pairs nicely with whatever hot beverage you pour inside. Well the ceramicists at East Fork decided to do their take on the classic, and it sold out instantly. Created by Alex Matisse (yes, of that Matisse family) and John Vigeland, the mug is a handmade design that is meant to "feel like an extension of your hand."

In 2017, the company made 2,269 mugs on a potter's wheel and 3,078 mugs in 2018. With a waitlist of 1,000, East Fork decided to make a 3D-printed mold to make production levels even higher this year for its new launch. And it still sold out.

While you wait for a re-stock, you can get a commemorative shirt the team designed in honor of its success. In the meantime, be on the lookout for the ceramics company's relaunch of the mug and check out the rest of its awesome designs. It just launched a few new items in a colorway of glaze hues called Blue Sky and Celery that are not to be missed.
