Waking up and deciphering which tune will begin the day is a sacred ritual for some. Will it be Bill Withers' Lovely Day, or Cardi B's I Like It? The possibilities are endless, and without proper speakers, not nearly as good. So, when Sonos announced a collaboration with Danish design company HAY, we knew mornings were in for a serious upgrade.
The HAY Sonos One Limited Edition Collection is a reimagined take on the Sonos One, offering a new color palette that aims to "explore the relationship between sound and color in the home." Featured in red, yellow, and green — HAY's 2018 color palette — the limited editions elevate the listening experience with a new and improved design-minded product.
Sonos VP of Design, Tad Toulis, explains, “Our speakers aren’t designed to claim attention, but to blend naturally into their surroundings.” While the product is branching out from its original black and white version, its sleek design still allows it to fade into, and even embrace, its surroundings. HAY co-founder and creative director, Mette Hay, adds,“Color is one of the most important tools in the design process, and it was very important we didn’t just create a color scale that looked beautiful. Colors can hide completely and disappear or provide contrast.”
So, what was the overall objective between HAY and Sonos, in combining a functional and minimalist product with design-centric properties? “These speakers deserve to be treated like furniture: strong, independent objects that fit different needs and spaces," Hay states. The design company's singular approach to color allows the collection to fully embody the Sonos concept of sonic architecture, while also harmonizing both brands’ knack for creating items that can completely transform a home.
Convinced and already want to purchase? Hold onto your seat. The HAY Sonos One collection will be available this September at flagship stores in NYC, London, and Berlin, and at the HAY House in Copenhagen.
