Is there anything better than beautiful textiles in your home? (The answer is no.) So when we heard about TREKO, a Sonoma-based company that commissions unique pieces from a group of female artisans on the island of Chiloé, we had to learn more. Founded by Chilean native Catalina Marin, the brand offers beautiful pieces that combine a modern sensibility with traditional weaving and knitting techniques dating from the 16th century passed down within the Huilliche community.
All of the textiles are made with 100% wool from 'Chilota' sheep that are born and raised on the island. Since they have been bred to adapt to difficult weather conditions, the wool is extra durable, but also maintains a soft flexible quality. That means these cool pieces can work well with spills and environments indoor and out.
The brand currently offers two unique collections. Kuk (meaning “handmade” in the native Chilean dialect) is inspired by the minimalist tones of the Chilean coastline while Pewma (aka “dream”) features bold stripes, playful pom poms, and tactile fleece elements woven together to create a more contemporary collection of pillows and blankets for the home. While these cool designs are only available in select stores and to design trade, we definitely recommend searching them out to add a much-need cozy cool addition to your home.
