A sister-run textile studio based in Los Angeles and Jaipur, Block Shop creates some of our very favorite pieces of art. Its works begin with creating designs on paper, which are then printed with wooden blocks. The very best part? The company is devoted to fair wages, putting women first, and empowering its community with 5% of annual profits from purchases going towards Block Shop's Bagru Women's Empowerment Program... Need we say more?
Okay, we will. Founders Lily and Hopie Stockman are expanding their collection in a collaboration with Bird. The Brooklyn-based clothing company supports emerging and established designers with a focus on locally and sustainably produced independent collections. Together, Bird and Block Shop created a collection of dresses with subtle, patterned pieces. Each frock is breezy and light, available to shop on Bird's site now.
What was the creative process behind designing these pieces like? The fabric for each dress was made by Block Shop's cooperative in India. Hopie and Lily worked together to create the print, while Jen Mankins of Bird designed the silhouettes.
If you're already experiencing stimulation overload, then you may want to sit down for this next bit of information. Block Shop also launched a brand-new collection of woodblock prints, which are available now. The works come in gorgeous sky blue, faded peach, and mustard yellow hues. They're made for mixing and matching, and together, the pastel tones create a stunning display. Now all we can think about is which room we'd want to hang these in within our own homes...
