While there has been a huge surge in cannabis-based products, marijuana possession is still illegal federally and in many states. Luckily, people are taking action to help solve this problem. One brand hoping to make change is P.F. Candle Co. For the month of April, the company will donate 10% of sales of its popular Cannabis candle — which infuses a blend of leather, vetiver, patchouli, and the flower — to the ACLU.
“Cannabis is such a huge part of Los Angeles culture, so we created this scent to celebrate California's legalization of the herb back in January 2018," shares P.F. Candle Co. founder Kristen Pumphrey. "However, incarceration for possession is common in cities where marijuana is illegal, which continues to disproportionately affect communities of color." In fact, while people of both races use cannabis at the same rates, black arrests are four times higher than white arrests for possession.
"We've chosen to donate to the ACLU because of the work they do to keep those who pose no danger to public safety out of the criminal justice system, as well as how they help individuals obtain the medicine they need,” she explains. The non-profit currently runs the Criminal Law Reform Project, aiming to implement and protect medical marijuana, while also supporting decriminalization in jurisdictions around the country. With new laws popping up around the country like S.F.'s practice of exonerating records with marijuana charges and New York's elimination of incarceration statutes for minor possession, supporting these legal fights is creating a culture of tolerance and improved racial equality within the justice system.
So if you want to give back and get an amazing scent for your space, we recommend adding this product to your cart before the month is through.
