Everyone knows good lighting is integral to a stylish home, but who's to say your fixtures can't be stylish, too? That's exactly why we're so smitten with Apparatus Studio. Launched in 2012 by Gabriel Hendifar and Jeremy Anderson, Apparatus proves that lighting doesn't have to be utilitarian; it's possible to have modern pendants, lamps, and chandeliers you truly want to show off.
With its headquarters in NYC and an outpost in Milan, Apparatus is finally taking its design revolution out west with a showroom in Los Angeles.
For the studio, making its west coast debut in L.A. was a no-brainer. Not only is Hendifar a native Angeleno, but he and Anderson also met and conceived Apparatus's first few pieces in the city about seven years ago.
Imagined and designed entirely by Hendifar, who serves as the brand's creative director, the new showroom pays homage to the City of Angels. And it looks really, really good.
Located in a former television production studio in Hollywood, the 5,000-square-foot showroom is a well-lit design oasis. In fact, it has no street-facing windows, allowing the light to stream in from a clerestory 15 feet above the ground. It's perfectly moody complement to the studio's statement-making light fixtures, if you ask us!
Inspired by Giorgio de Chirico's paintings, Hendifar turned the space into livable art with expressed in-hand troweled plaster walls, stone and veneer accents, and a muted color scheme. The result? A beautiful showroom you'd want to hang out in after hours.
But unlike most showrooms, which focus solely on one brand, Apparatus also showcases Los Angeles' art and design scene. In addition to its own lighting, furniture, and object lines, the space features a selection of pieces from the JF Chen collection, as well as works from artists Robert Moreland and Amir Nikravan. This team effort gets a solid A+ in our book.
Apparatus Studio's Los Angeles showroom is located on 1021 N McCadden Place. You can also peruse all of the studio's wares online.
