New York Fashion Week Is Going Home

Just hold on: a look at fashion shows in the grandest of homes.

New York designers are known for pushing the aesthetic envelope in their Fashion Week showings, but it's the venues we're interested in here at Lonny. Milk Studios, The Armory, the old tents at Bryant Park (now Lincoln Center): these iconic locations have an ambiance all their own—in fact, many designers enlist the help of set designers to turn those places into works of art. Witness the medieval dungeon that Marc Jacobs and Stefan Beckman collaborated on at The Armory last year; this year, Tommy Hilfiger turned Pier 39 into a tropical beach scene, complete with models knee-deep in water and guests leaving with sand in their shoes.

But while we appreciate such moments of grandeur, we can't help but go heart eyes for shows that take place at home, especially when it's a residence as nice as Lonny favorite Adam Lippes's New York City townhouse. For his Spring/Summer 2016 collection, the designer adorned models in romantic shades and blush-hued fabrics—the perfect complement to his home's muted palette and traditional decor. Perhaps it's our affinity for stately architecture and well considered interiors, but there's something inspiring about seeing models showcasing designs where they're meant to be worn—#IRL.

Further uptown, Carolina Herrera showed her Spring/Summer 2016 House of Herrera collection at The Frick. Fifth Avenue has its handful of dreamy historic mansions, but the museum is among the best. With lush green palms, head-tilting columns, and Instagram-worthy beauty, it became the perfect backdrop for an off-the-runway display that we won't soon forget.
