When you walk through the floor-to-ceiling glass doors of St. Frank’s recently opened flagship, it’s hard to know where to look first. The 1200-square-foot space reads like your most well-traveled friend’s apartment, offering a generous edit of ethically-sourced handmade homewares and exotic curiosities. St. Frank has been partnering with artists around the globe still working in traditional crafts to create artisan products since it’s conception in 2014.
“St. Frank was built to provide a new lifestyle for the Millennial Generation,” explains founder Christina Bryant. “This generation cares about social impact and traditional crafts—they want to travel off the beaten path.”
Certainly the new shop serves as a realization of this brand ethos. Their eclectic offering—previously only available online—is arranged to reflect a collected gathering space where their socially-conscious customer would aspire to live. The liberally lit interior includes a cozy living room, covetable travel library, and acts as a functioning home for their vibrant Turkish kilims, hand-dyed pillows, Peruvian alpaca throws and signature framed textiles. Bryant partnered with Bay Area design duo SWAYSTUDIO to create an architecturally embellished interior program that is at once refined and decidedly lived-in. “The juxtaposition of modern and ethnic, traditional and eclectic, has always been core to our aesthetic,” says Bryant.
Each month, the space hosts a trunk show for an undiscovered young designer whose values align with the brand’s social mission. “We hope to expose our customer to new design influences,” says Bryant, “to be place of discovery and support.” If you’re not in San Francisco don’t fret, the brand plans to open two more outposts later this year.
