When you are trying to redecorate a room, one of the trickiest things is visualizing your space with new items in the mix. Well thanks to the wonders of 3D design and a savvy startup, you're life is about to become a whole lot easier.
Modsy is a personalized home design solution that allows you to "try on" art, furniture, and decor in your space without ever going to the store. The startup uses advanced technologies including computer vision, 3D capture, and photorealistic 3D rendering to allow users to capture photos of your home and recreate the space with shop-able options based on taste preferences. Clearly, this is a total game changer when it comes to the world of interior design.
Co-Founder Shanna Tellerman came upon the idea for Modsy while trying to redecorate her own apartment. "My Pinterest boards were full of beautiful images that were mostly useless when designing my real home," she said. "I was back to the beginning visiting furniture retailers whose websites I could remember and googling for various items. This resulted in 100 open tabs, various shopping carts full of things I might want to buy, and still no clue if or how they all come together. The next weekend we visited a handful of furniture stores in the area, limited to the retailers we knew about in a 10 mile radius with easy city parking. We took hundreds of photos in the stores and in our apartment and then we painstakingly tried to imagine how all the pieces might fit together."
This difficult experience lead to a vision of "a one stop digital catalogue that would allow people to imagine, see and buy in the context of their very own home". The company became a reality in February 2015, but the San Francisco-based startup just went public this September.
