Packing and repacking her kit for endless photo shoots, Burke was on the lookout for a stylish alternative to the baggies and pouches so often marketed to her profession, utilitarian but devoid of any kind of individuality or style. So she made her own. Soon clients and fellow makeup artists were coveting her vivid-hued creations, prompting Burke to share her designs en masse. "What began as a professional staple has quickly become the go-to accessory for both inside and out of my handbag," says the designer.
Burke officially launched Shawn Burke Ltd. in 2010 with longtime friend and colleague Camille Mason, making the covetable accessories available on her e-commerce site. "Founded on necessity with a dose of everyday glamour," Burke's bags—rendered in everything from jewel-toned suede to waxed cotton—are designed and manufactured in California. Versatile and subtly chic, they've got the pro seal of approval.
