If you’re familiar with the colorful, eclectic style of Aelfie—the brand launched with rugs in 2012, and has since expanded to include throw pillows, bedding, and décor accessories—it'll come as no surprise that the newest additions to the Brooklyn-based brand’s product range are as bright and quirky as a Bushwick morning. Need proof? The collection of throw blankets ($149 each) makes its debut this month and includes both a pink skateboarding-dog pattern and a purple-lemon motif, among other fun, graphic styles.
The juxtaposition of unexpected designs is what we’ve come to expect from the brand's founder, Aelfie Oudghiri. “We're not afraid to release a skateboarding dog right next to a blanket covered in female intellectuals," she says. "That's the core of our style. Highbrow and lowbrow can coexist comfortably and stylishly.”
The inaugural collection of 11 throws is handmade locally using recycled cotton at a family-run knitting factory that’s been in business since the early 1900s. “There's so much textile waste, and it's fantastic that these blankets breathe new life into old cotton,” says Oudghiri, who decided to introduce the range after her daughter was born. “Little blankets became a big part of our lives—they're so useful!" she says. "I don't know how I watched TV before owning a throw blanket.” The feeling is mutual.
