When Deborah Lloyd, the company’s President and Chief Creative Officer, extended their quotable range to home furnishings this past fall, introducing a collection of glamorous light fixtures with Visual Comfort, feminine furniture silhouettes with EJ Victor and familiarly-patterned rugs with Jaipur Living, the result was predictably delightful. “These collections were a natural brand extension for us,” explains Lloyd. “We took our iconic prints, colors and signature charm and translated them into a home furnishings story.”
This spring, lucky New Yorkers can experience the brand’s distinctive new décor in person, with a pop-up boutique dedicated to its showroom-worthy offerings. Aptly located in fashion-centric SoHo, which in Lloyd’s words, “typifies New York style with a hint of edge,” the shop’s interior reflects the appeal of its landmarked building’s façade, featuring soaring ceilings, exposed brick walls and a white tin roof. The space is arranged by curated vignettes meant to resemble rooms within a well-appointed New York City brownstone—complete with found art pieces playfully displayed on the walls. “The shop has all of kate spade new york’s décor categories under one roof – from a spotty tea kettle to an aqua sofa,” describes Lloyd.
Expect to find their recent introductions mixed with a quintessentially-kate-spade edit of cheeky cookware, tabletop accoutrements, cutesy linens, coffee table books and office essentials. The mantra, “Make Yourself at Home” is written in the brand’s iconic cursive over the front counter. Lloyd explains, “The pop-up epitomizes our love for throwing rules out the window by creating a space that encourages visitors to truly make it their own.” You have until the end of May to visit kate spade’s temporary home—and on plans for a more permanent outpost? Lloyd teases, “You’ll just have to wait and find out.”
