Charcoal has been used for centuries for its cleansing and neutralizing properties. And in the last few years, we've seen the lowly substance pop up in soaps, face masks and even water purifiers. So when this charcoal-rich Dirty Lemon mocktail crossed my desk, I was inspired to do a deep dive on detoxing and find out exactly what one should do when they've had a sunny, hot-dog-heavy summer. Especially since "one" is me, and my tan has faded, and I think I ate a hot dog last weekend.
1. Try drinking charcoal. It balances your gut's pH levels and has everything you need to remedy from the inside: lemon, activated charcoal, dandelion, and ginger root. Dirty Lemon is tart and tasty, and not nearly as intense as the Master Cleanse.
2. Know the magic of exfoliation. You know by now that your skin is your body's largest organ, so give it a good scrub down in your next shower. Studies show it even helps you sing better (we might have done them ourselves). Ridding your body of dead skin cells is important for new cell production and blood flow, and, it turns out, makes you glow. We really like Thesis Lemongrass Body Scrub for its ultra-natural peppermint oils, which kick in after the Dead Sea salts, leaving you more refreshed than a York Peppermint Patty.
3. Hop on over to face mask city. I use a face mask every Sunday night to help my skin balance itself out from the whiskey bath it takes on Saturdays. 5. Stop and smell the Lavender. Diffusers can work with all sorts of scents, but I love lavender for its ability to calm the mind. When you're doing a 360 detox, you can't forget about your brain.
